Chapter 3: Everything is Quite Good

After hanging up, Gu Jinchen remained silent for a moment. Then he picked up the internal line and called his assistant.

Once the call connected, he said,
“Help me arrange a dinner with President Ji of Zhongsheng Group tonight.”

Assistant Zhang promptly replied,
“Yes, President Gu.”

The CEO's office was located on the 28th floor. Gu Jinchen stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, dressed in a crisp white shirt with the sleeves casually rolled up, revealing his strong, lean forearms.

He could clearly recall that night three years ago, before Shen Youran left the country.

She had burned all their photos, thrown away everything related to him, and with a voice full of cold hatred, declared:
“Gu Jinchen, let’s hope we never meet again in this life.”

He closed his eyes and murmured softly,
“Youran…”

Shen Youran had kept her eyes closed in the back seat, pretending to rest. Only when Old Wang announced, “We’re here,” did she finally open them.

Old Wang got out and opened the door for her. As she stepped out and looked at the familiar house in front of her, she froze for a moment. Her brows furrowed slightly.
“Why are we at the Gu residence?”

Old Wang replied calmly,
“Miss Shuna said she hasn’t seen you in three years. She asked me to bring you over for dinner.”

Shen Youran pressed her pale lips together.
It had indeed been three years. If not for her grandfather’s 80th birthday, she might never have returned.

Whether it was California, the UK, or Canada—so long as it wasn’t her home country—she had been willing to stay forever, even if it meant growing old alone.

A servant led her into the Gu family’s living room. Just as she stepped inside, Shen Shuna descended the stairs. Seeing Shen Youran by the entrance, her face lit up with joy.

“Youran, you finally came back.”

Three years ago, the day Shen Youran left the country, Shen Shuna had gone to the airport to see her off. At the time, Shen Youran’s eyes were filled with despair.
“I’m never coming back. And I will never bless the two of you.”

In one week, Gu Jinchen and Shen Shuna were set to marry. With no way to change anything, all she could do was run.

After she left the country, Shen Youran cut off all contact with everyone. She hadn’t even logged into her MSN account for ages.

It wasn’t until one day, when she suddenly called Shen Yaoting asking for a large sum of money, that she finally reconnected with her family.

In the three years since they last saw each other, Shen Shuna—now a married woman—had grown even more beautiful.

She wore a light teal qipao embroidered with delicate orchids at the collar. The high slit subtly revealed her fair, slender legs.

Her long hair had been cut short and styled into soft, curling chestnut waves, framing her face perfectly. Her skin was radiant, her style modern and refined.

As she slowly descended the stairs, she exuded the poised elegance of a socialite heiress.

“Jie,” Shen Youran greeted her softly, no longer using her once sweet and affectionate tone.

Shen Shuna reached her and gently took her hands, looking her over from head to toe.

She had grown visibly thinner—like she was all bone and no flesh.

Shen Shuna’s heart ached.
“Did you not live well in California?”

“It wasn’t bad. Everything was fine,” Shen Youran replied with the same line she always used when people asked about her life abroad.

Shen Shuna knew how stubborn she could be. If she didn’t want to talk, asking would be pointless.

Seeing the exhaustion in her sister’s eyes, she said gently,
“Go upstairs and rest in the guest room. Once you wake up, I’ll have the staff cook all your favorite dishes.”

“Mm.” Shen Youran nodded. She truly was tired.

She headed upstairs. The Gu residence was all too familiar, and she easily found her way to the guest room.

She took a hot shower in the bathroom, dried her hair, and then lay down on the bed.

As her eyes gradually closed, she slipped into a restless sleep—just like every night.

Haunted by strange, surreal dreams.
