Chapter 1: The Second Miss of the Shen Family

The airport buzzed with crowds, and the sweet voice of a woman echoed over the PA system, announcing flight arrivals.

When the flight from California to City A landed, the passengers poured out like a tide.

Among them, a slender girl emerged, pulling a suitcase behind her. She wore a T-shirt with English letters on it, paired with dark blue skinny jeans. Her naturally curly hair was tied up in a ponytail.

Her skin was porcelain-fair, and her tall figure combined with a clean, quiet aura made her stand out in the crowd.

Lao Wang, who had come to pick her up, spotted her instantly. He rushed forward and took the suitcase from her hand.

“Second Miss.”

Shen Youran looked around. Besides Lao Wang, no one else had come to meet her. The corners of her lips lifted faintly in a self-deprecating smile.

Perhaps she had been abroad for too long. Long enough for everyone to forget that Shen Youran even existed.

But it didn’t matter. Everything would take time.

Outside the airport, Shen Youran got into the car and closed her eyes to rest. Lao Wang stowed the suitcase in the trunk, got into the driver’s seat, glanced at her through the rearview mirror, and hesitated.

The eldest miss had told him to take the second miss straight to the Gu family’s house for dinner. But that decision still depended on what the second miss herself wanted.

Seeing her eyes closed, he assumed she was asleep and said nothing, pulling into traffic.

After over ten hours on the plane, Shen Youran fell asleep almost immediately. But before long, a blaring car horn jolted her awake.

The car wasn’t moving. She looked out the window—traffic had come to a standstill in the heart of downtown. The bustling streets were packed with people, and the towering buildings shimmered under the sun.

She rubbed her tired eyes. “Uncle Wang, what’s going on?”

Lao Wang glanced at her through the mirror. “This road’s always jammed, Second Miss. You can sleep a bit longer. I’ll wake you when we get through.”

But Shen Youran was a light sleeper. Once awake, there was no going back to sleep.

Cars crept forward little by little, and Lao Wang followed in kind, inching along with the flow.

After half an hour, Shen Youran had completely lost her patience. Seeing space ahead, she urged Lao Wang to go around.

Lao Wang was an experienced driver for the Shen family, and under her instructions, he skillfully overtook several cars in a row.

However, just as they were maneuvering again, a Maybach ahead—also aggressively changing lanes—suddenly slowed. Lao Wang couldn’t brake in time and lightly rear-ended it.

The speed hadn’t been high, so no one was hurt. But the impact had left a dent in the other car’s bumper.

Lao Wang’s face turned ashen. “Second M-Miss… what do we do now?”

Just from the car’s make and the custom license plate, it was obvious the owner wasn’t someone to mess with.

Shen Youran raised an eyebrow, her expression calm. She pursed her lips, then got out of the car and walked over to the Maybach, knocking on the window.

Inside, the man in the driver’s seat had just unbuckled his seatbelt, about to get out and inspect the damage. When he heard the knock, he looked up—and saw Shen Youran.

He lowered the window slowly, but before he could say anything, Shen Youran beat him to it.

“Do you have paper and a pen?”

Xiao Cheng blinked at her, momentarily dazed.

When she repeated the question—“Do you have paper and a pen?”—he snapped out of it and handed her the items as if in a trance.

From his rearview mirror earlier, he had seen her get out of the car that had hit him. So she must be the one responsible.

Shen Youran scribbled down a string of numbers along with a name.

Maybe the memory was too deeply etched—after three years, she could still recite that number backwards.
